Marietta still battling for spot in OAC Tennis Tournament

Apr. 17, 2007
ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team began the final week of its regular season Tuesday (Apr. 17) with a 7-2 road loss to Mount Union.

The Lady Pioneers, who fell to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, need a victory over Capital on Saturday (Apr. 21) and some help to clinch a spot in next week's eight-team OAC Tournament. Mount Union improved to 13-5, 6-2 in league play with the victory.

Marietta' first doubles pair of sophomore Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) and freshman Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) won for the fifth time this year, taking the pro set, 8-3.

Carraher, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, then extended her win streak at first singles to seven matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kacey Huff.

The Lady Pioneers wrap up the regular season with the 3:30 p.m. home contest with the Crusaders, who are 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the OAC. The action will be played at the Beren Tennis Center.
