Marietta women earn eighth seed in OAC Tennis Tournament
Lady Pioneers will take on top-seeded Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Apr. 22, 2007
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team learned Sunday (Apr. 22) afternoon that it earned the eighth and final spot in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament. The eight-team tournament will start on Tuesday and conclude Saturday.

The Lady Pioneers (2-9, 1-8 OAC) finished in a three-way tie with Muskingum and Capital for eighth place in the league but won the tie breaker to make the tournament.

The first round matches will be played on the campus of the higher seeds with the semifinals and final taking place at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

Eighth-seeded Marietta has the tough task of taking on top-seeded Baldwin-Wallace (21-2, 9-0 OAC) on Wednesday (Apr. 25) at 3:30 p.m. in Berea. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers 8-1 during the regular season on April 14.

In that meeting, Marietta's Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) became the first OAC player to ever defeat Baldwin-Wallace senior Andrea Isaac, the two-time OAC Player of the Year, in a singles match. Carraher won the pro set 9-8 (8-6) to snap Isaac's 40-match OAC win streak.

The other first round matches up pit seventh-seeded Heidelberg at second-seeded Ohio Northern, sixth-seeded Wilmington at third-seeded Otterbein and fifth-seeded John Carroll at fourth-seeded Mount Union. The Otterbein match will be played Tuesday, while the remaining matches will take place on Wednesday. All begin at 3:30 p.m.
