Marietta's Chadwell named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team for second straight season
2007 valedictorian earns second team honors in college at-large division

MARIETTA, Ohio — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released their 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America At-Large teams Thursday (June 14), and Marietta College senior tennis player Katie Chadwell (Georgetown) earned second team honors.
The women's at-large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, and water polo.
Chadwell, who earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team honors in 2006, was also named Academic All-OAC and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District this spring. The senior finished 2-8 in singles, mainly in the third slot, and 2-9 at second doubles in 2007.
The organization communication major, who also minored in art with a certificate in leadership, finished with a 4.0 GPA and was named the valedictorian of the senior class at commencement on May 19. Chadwell was a four-year member of the women's tennis team and played basketball this past season. Outside of sports, Chadwell was active in the Student Alumni Council and Student-Athletic Advisory Council.
The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1,600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
