Pioneers fall to Notre Dame 8-1 in home tennis opener
Rockhold improves to 1-0 at singles with win in a tiebreaker

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College senior Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) won his first singles match of the season Monday (March 24) afternoon, but visiting Notre Dame College swept the rest of the points en route to the 8-1 victory on a chilly day at the Beren Tennis Center.

Rockhold, in his third year of tennis, took the first set, 6-1, but fell in set two, 3-6. He bounced back, however, to win the tiebreaker, 10-5, and thus the sixth-singles match. Rockhold and senior teammate Ryan Callihan (Stout/Portsmouth West) nearly earned another point at second doubles, leading early. Unfortunately, the Falcons put together a late rally and won 8-5.

The Pioneers will return to the courts on Tuesday (March 25) when they resume Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against visiting Wilmington College at 3:30 p.m.
