Marietta men drop OAC match to visiting Wilmington 7-2
Carpenter picks up first collegiate victory at third singles

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team returned to action at the Beren Tennis Center for the second straight afternoon Tuesday (March 25). This time is was for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) showdown with Wilmington College, who won the match 7-2. The victory improved the Quakers' record to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. The Pioneers fell to 0-3, 0-2 in league play.

Marietta took one of its points at third singles when the duo of senior Adam Rockhold (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) and freshman Sam Vincent (Parkersburg, W.Va.) won in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-2).

Freshman Mike Carpenter (Parkersburg, W.Va.) claimed the other point with a three-set win at third singles. Carpenter overcame a 6-4 loss in the opener to win 7-5 and 6-3.

Rockhold almost took another point at sixth singles, but fell in a marathon match, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-7.

The Pioneers will look to continue to improve on Saturday (March 29) when they visit Heidelberg College in a 1 p.m. OAC match in Tiffin.
