Andy Bucheit
Men's Coach

Andy Bucheit begings his first season as the men's tennis coach at Marietta College.

Bucheit, who is also the assistant men's basketball coach, spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant with the men’s basketball team at Ashland University. The Eagles qualified for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic League (GLIAC) Tournament in both 2006-07 and 2007-08. In addition to assisting in the recruiting and scouting efforts at Ashland, Bucheit specialized in developing the Eagle’s perimeter skills. He also oversaw the team’s academic program.

Bucheit was a four-year letterman and two-year starter on Wittenberg University’s basketball team. The Tigers compiled a 95-19 record and participated in the NCAA Division III national tournament in three Bucheit’s four seasons with the team. The guard, who served as a captain and earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference second team honors during his season year, finished with 951 points and made 191 three-point field goals in his career.

Bucheit spent the 2005-06 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, which went 30-4 and advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game. In that role, he worked with the perimeter players. Bucheit was also involved in video analysis and active in recruiting.

"I want to thank Larry Hiser and Marietta College for providing me with an excellent oppurtunity," Bucheit said. "I am excited to get on the courts this fall and begin working with our players."

Bucheit graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication from Wittenberg in 2005 and earned a master’s degree in sports education from Ashland in 2008. The Cincinnati native, who lives in Marietta, worked a variety of summer basketball camps throughout the region. He organized and directed both Ashland’s Camp of Champions and Team Shootouts in 2007.

 

 

Danika Cox
Women's Coach

Danika Cox begins her first season as the head women's tennis coach and assistant women's basketball coach at Marietta College.

Cox, a 2004 graduate of Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky, joins the Pioneers after two seasons with Oakland City (Ind.) University. She helped the Mighty Oaks win back-to-back NCCAA MidEast Region Championships in 2006 and 2006. Oakland City went on to finish second and third, respectively, in the NCCAA National Tournament.

In 2004-05, Cox was an assistant coach for Wolfe County High School in Campton, Ky., where she led the junior varsity team to a 17-2 record.

Cox began her collegiate playing career in 2000-01 at Western Kentucky in Bowling Green, Ky. She lettered as a freshman with the Hilltoppers and helped them qualify for the National Invitational Tournament. Cox then transferred to Cumberland for her final three seasons. The Patriots qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in 2002 and 2004. In 2004, they were the Mid-South Conference Champions and finished 28-4. Cox, a three-year letterwinner at Cumberland, was given All-Mid-South Conference honorable mention in 2003 and 2004.

Cox earned a Bachelor of Science in movement and leisure studies from Cumberland in 2004 and a Masters of Science in management from Oakland City in 2006. She has gained further coaching experience by working an assortment of camps around the Ohio and Kentucky border.

Cox lives in Marietta.
