Pioneers finish ninth at OAC Relays

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Both the Marietta College men and women placed ninth Saturday at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Relays, hosted by Capital University. The Pioneers collected 49 points, while the Lady Pioneers totaled 26.5 points.
Sophomore Rachel Forman (Heath) was the top finisher for the women, as she placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 12.31m. Alecia Benninger finished ninth in the event, throwing 10.02m, and earned a 12th place finish in the shot put with a toss of 10.4m.
Also leading the way for the MC women were freshman Janelle Rhodes (Indian River, MI), who took eighth in pole vault (2.59m) and 13th in the 55m hurdles (9.80), Lydia Christopher (Cypress, TX), who placed 12th in the 3000m (12:02.96), and Marissa Barnhart(Avon) with her 13th place finish in the long jump (4.51m).
Senior Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV/Parkersburg South) jumped to a second place finish in the high jump (1.96m) and ninth place finish in the long jump (6.21m) to once again lead the men in scoring. Freshman Travis Barth (Waterford) was ninth in the high jump (1.83m).
Sophomore Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, VA) took his try at the long jump for the first time in his collegiate career and came away with a fifth place finish (6.34m). He also combined with Jeff Sherman (Akron), John Sidle (Orrville) and Joe Webb (Monessen, PA) to take fifth in the 4x200m relay.
Raj Sharan (Manchester, MD) threw the weight throw 11.82m to place sixth and Dan DeZordo (Louisville) placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 13.27m.
The Pioneers will return to the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center Friday (Feb. 4) for the MC Alumni meet which will coincide with Winter Weekend at Marietta College. Action gets under way at 4:30 p.m.
