Taylor and Kosar highlight Marietta's finish at OAC indoor Championships

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Pioneers track team showed that they were a team to reckon with in the high jump Saturday (Mar. 5), the final day of competition at the 2005 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Senior Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV) took first place in the men's competition and freshman Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, WV) finished runner-up on the women's side.
Taylor cleared 2.04m (6-08.25) and was Marietta's only champion, while Kosar leaped 1.57m (5-01.75) to earn eight points for the Lady Pioneers. Both earned All-OAC for their efforts this weekend.
As a team, the men totaled 16 points and the women finished with nine. Mount Union won the men's title with 149 points and Baldwin-Wallace took the women's crown with 125 points.
Other Marietta competitors today included Harrison Potter (Rochester, NY) (1000m/2:43.88/10th), Travis Barth (Waterford) (high jump/1.85m (6-00.75)/8th), Chad Showen (Parkersburg, WV) (pole vault/3.97m (13-00.25)/12th), Dan DeZordo (Louisville) (shot put/14.29m (46-10.75)/7th), Alecia Benninger (shot put/9.81m (32-02.25)/16th), Brea Gardner (Glenford) (800m/2:36.71/10th), and Marissa Barnhart (Avon) (high jump/1.43m (4-08.25)/11th).
The Pioneers also placed ninth in the men's 4x200m relay (1:35.78) and eighth in the women's 4x200m relay (1:57.42).
Marietta kicks off its outdoor season this weekend (Mar. 11-12) at the Florida A&M Relays. Coach Derek Stanley and Taylor, however, will travel to Illinois Wesleyan for the NCAA Division III Nationals, where Taylor will represent the Navy Blue & White in the high jump.
