Men win, women place second at Mount St. Joseph Invite

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Marietta College track & field team traveled to Cincinnati for the Mount St. Joseph Lions Invitational II Friday (Apr. 22). The Pioneer men totaled 171 points to win first place, while the women finished in a tie for second with 143 points.

Highlights from the event included the women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Joanna Ferrell (Mineral Wells, WV), Marissa Barnhart (Avon), Mallory Sinoski (Fairpoint) and Cayli Cummons (Parkersburg, WV), setting a new school record (52.38) and placing second.

Ferrell also had two great individual performances, running season best times in the 100m dash (13.31) and 200m dash (27.60). Sinoski also ran a personal best in the 200m dash (28.07).

Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, WV) rebounded from an injury to win the high jump by clearing 1.52m (5-00.00). Janelle Rhodes (Indian River, MI) also captured a first place finish in the pole vault, with a season's best height of 2.74m (9-00.00). In addition, Barnhart had season best performances in the long jump (4.78m/15-08.25) and triple jump (9.74m/31-11.50).

The Pioneer men also had some key performances at the meet. Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, VA) ran a season's best time of 23.03 in the 200m dash. Darkeevin Peoples (Akron) ran the 400m dash in 53.68 in his first meet back from an injury.

Harry Potter (Rochester, NY) ran a personal best time (4:19.31) in the 1,500 meter run, while John Hull (Scott Depot, WV) (16:54.63) and Andrew Wichie (Brunswick) (16:58.52) ran personal bests in the 5,000m race.

Clark Spears (Brunswick) took first place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:08.23.

In addition, Chris Taylor (Mineral Wells, WV) set a new personal outdoor best in the long jump (6.42m/21.00.75) and Tony Greece (Greenburg, PA) threw a personal best in the javelin (49.62m/162-09).

The Pioneers will return to action Saturday (Apr. 30) when they compete at Ohio University.
