Distance performances highlight MC track's day at Bobcat Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio - The Marietta College track & field team competed Saturday (Apr. 30) at the 2005 Bobcat Invitational on the campus of Ohio University. Despite the competition being an un scored event, there were some individual highlights at the meet.
Marietta's distance runners performed well at the invitational, with many setting new personal records. Ben Williams (Marietta) (15th/2:09.73) and Kileen Lehman (Elyria) (11th/2:36.69) each set new personal bests in the 800 meter run.
Lydia Christopher (Cypress, TX) and Emily Klodowski (Rochester, PA), as well as Clark Spears (Brunswick) and Harry Potter (Rochester, NY) each set new personal bests in the 3,000m run. Christopher (11:20.99) finished ninth and broke her PR by 18 seconds, while Klodowski (12:07.05) placed 18th in the women's race. Spears (9:17.36) eclipsed his prior best time by 11 seconds and came in ninth, and Potter (9:28.54) improved by 15 seconds and placed 14th in the men's race.
Another highlight came in the final event of the evening, as Marietta's 4x400m men's relay team ran to a second place finish with a time of 3:31.50. Members included Anthony Banks (Colonial Heights, VA), Jeff Sherman (Akron), Tom Roberts (Worthington) and Darkeevin Peoples (Akron).
Earlier in the day, the tandem of John Hull (Scott Depot, WV) and Andrew Wichie (Brunswick) traveled to Berea for the 10,000 meter run at the 2005 Sparky Adams Invitational, since the event was not being run in Athens. Hull (35:55.80) took fourth in the event and Wichie (36:02.91) placed fifth.
Some of the Pioneers will return to action Monday (May 2) when they compete at the Last Chance Meet, hosted by Ohio Northern. The OAC Outdoor Championships are set to begin Wednesday (May 4) with the hammer throw. Mount Union is this year's host. |
