Larrison breaks school record in 800m run
Mar. 11, 2006
Tallahassee, Florida— Members of the Marietta College track
& field team headed south during Spring Break for the second
straight season this weekend. The Pioneers, who are scheduled to
compete twice during the week, took part in the 56th annual Florida
A&M Relays Friday and Saturday (Mar. 10-11).
Head Coach Derek Stanley's squad had a solid showing
at the non scoring meet, which included mostly Division I scholarship
schools. As has been the case with every meet this season, Marietta
set another school record at the competition. Freshman Jessi
Larrison broke the Pioneers’ outdoor record in the
800m run en route to a sixth place finish. Larrison, an All-OAC
honoree in the indoor 500m run, finished in 2:25.60; the previous
record (2:29.89) was set by Emily Tenney in 2003.
Other top individual 10 finishers for Marietta included Clark
Spears (5th/9:56.78) and Harrison Potter
(8th/10:23.44) in the 3000m steeplechase, John Hull
(8th/16:45.59) and Potter (10th/17:51.72) in the 5000m run,
Mike Pankowski (3rd/49.96m) in the javelin, Seth
Townsend (3rd/1.92m) in the high jump, Derek Carpenter
(5th/13.66m), Dan DeZordo (7th/12.71m), Brian
Pallini (8th/12.62m) and Eric Finn (9th/12.52m)
in the shot put, as well as DeZordo (6th/42.50m) in the discus.
In addition, the women’s 4x100m relay (9th/52.98) and 1600m
sprint medley (7th/4:36.00), as well as the men’s 4x800m relay
(4th/8:35.27), 1600m sprint medley and 4x400m relay (9th/3:36.02)
also placed in the top ten.
Marietta will also compete at Coastal Carolina at the end of the
break (Mar. 17-18.), before heading back to southeast Ohio.
