Apr. 3, 2006
TWINSBURG, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference office released its weekly honors Monday (Apr. 3) and Marietta College's Dan DeZordo (Louisville/Marlington) was named the Field Athlete of the Week.
DeZordo, who finished fourth in the discus at the 2005 OAC Outdoor Championships, claimed the individual championship in the event at the OAC Black Meet Saturday (Apr. 1), on the campus of Otterbein College.
The sophomore's second last attempt traveled 159-00 (48.47m), which was good enough for the victory. DeZordo's performance in the discus provisionally qualified him for the 2006 NCAA Division III National Championships.
DeZordo also went on to place second in the shot put with a toss of 46-10 (14.27m).
DeZordo has now qualified for the upcoming All-Ohio Championships (Apr. 15) in the shot put, the discus and the hammer throw. He has also secured a spot in the discus and shot put at the 2006 OAC Championships, which will be held at Don Drumm Stadium in Marietta on May 12-13.
Marietta will return to action this Saturday (Apr. 8) at Mount Union
for the Mt. Union College Open. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with running starting at 11:45 a.m. Its Don Frail Invitational, slated to be held Saturday at Don Drumm Stadium, has been cancelled.
