Four women set school records at Jesse Owens Classic
Pioneers also establish 15 personal records at the meet May 6, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College track & field team had its final tune-up before hosting the 2006 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Championships when the Pioneers traveled to Ohio State University to compete at the Jesse Owens Classic Friday (May 5) and Saturday (May 6).
Although the meet, which included a wide range of collegiate programs, was not scored, Marietta had a number of noteworthy performances and set four school records.
Sophomore Joanna Ferrell (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) broke her own school record in the 100m dash and placed seventh. She crossed the line in 13.25 seconds.
Freshman Jessi Larrison (Batavia) shaved some time off her school-record mark in the 800m run Saturday. Larrison took second with a time of 2:15.91.
Freshman Leslie Pyle (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill) broke the school record in the 100m hurdles, placing seventh with a time of 15.91 seconds.
Sophomore Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) also set a new school record in the high jump, clearing 1.60m to place second.
In addition to the four school records, sophomore Marissa Barnhart (Avon) set a new personal record in the triple jump (10.02m) and freshman Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) set new personal bests in the discus (32.55m) and the hammer throw (37.92m).
On the men's side, personal records were set by freshman Jered Mitchem (Marietta/Warren Local) in the 800m run (1:56.77), freshman Seth Townsend (Belleville, W.Va./Parkersburg South) in the high jump (1.95m) and in the triple jump (13.09m), senior Chad Showen (Parkersburg, W.Va./South) in the pole vault (4.20m), freshman Kevin Cox (Belpre) in the shot put (13.63m), Brian Pallini (Medina) in the discus (38.85m) and freshman Jason Cocca (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) in the javelin (47.88m).
Marietta will return to action when it hosts the 2006 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Don Drumm Stadium on Friday and Saturday (May 12-13). |
