Marietta College track & field ready to make a showing at Division III All-Ohio Indoor Championships
15 athletes will represent the Pioneers at Otterbein on Saturday, rest of team will compete at MC Alumni Meet on Friday

Feb. 7, 2007
MARIETTA, Ohio — On Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon, Marietta College track & field will send 15 student-athletes to compete at the fourth annual All-Ohio Indoor Track & Field Championships. This year, the meet is scheduled to get underway at noon in the Clements Recreation Center, on the campus of Otterbein College.

Those Pioneers who did not qualify for Saturday’s meet will compete at home Friday (Feb. 9) when Marietta plays host to four schools for an Open Alumni Meet. The competition, held in conjunction with Winter Weekend, is open to all Marietta College Alums and will commence at 5 p.m. inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.

2007 matches the most athletes that Marietta will send to the event since it was reinstated in 2002. Five Pioneers were invited in 2004, six participated in 2005 and 15 also qualified in 2006.

"There are a few meets to measure the improvement of a program and this is one of them," said Head Coach Derek Stanley. "Our women have earned an opportunity to score in this big meet. I am confident they will step up to the challenge and we will walk away with the best performance our program has had at the Championship since the meet started three years ago."

In 2006, the Pioneers fared quite well; the women (26 points) finished eighth of out 17 teams and the men (18 points) tied for 11th in the 18-school competition.

In order to qualify to the All-Ohio Indoor Championships, athletes must have their top performances from the current indoor season rank in the top 16 for running events, top 12 for field events, or have one of the top eight relay times. The All-Ohio meet is Division III only, with teams representing the OAC, HCAC, NCAC and the UAA.

12 women and two men will be competing for Marietta in 13 different events Saturday in Westerville.
