Altenhof's school-record and second-place performance in Discus highlights day one of OAC Championships for Marietta College track & field
OAC Championships conclude Saturday in Berea

BEREA, Ohio — The 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships kicked off Friday (May 11) on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College. The Marietta College men sit in eighth place with 13 points, while the women are in fifth with 17 points after the first day of competition.

12 event champions were crowned on Friday and 30 more events will be on the line Saturday. The Pioneers have one All-OAC performer thus far, as freshman Danielle Altenhof (East Rochester/United Local) took second place in the Discus Throw. Altenhof did so by breaking a 24-year old school record with a final mark of 121-04 (36.99m).

Freshman Shannon McDonald (Lorain/Amherst Steele) ran to a sixth place finish in the 10,000m Run, crossing the line in 41:51.90.

Freshman Sheena Spencer (Marietta/Parkersburg) advanced to the finals in the 400m Hurdles with a sixth place finish in the prelims. She finished with a time of 1:08.86.

The Lady Pioneers’ 4x800m Relay, which included freshmen Randi Robertson (Avon Lake), Brenda Puckett (Eaton/Preble Shawness) and Logan Wern (North Canton/Hoover) and sophomore Jessi Larrison (Batavia), took seventh with a time of 9:52.53.

Senior Fizzy Ramsey (Danville, Ky./Boyle) tied for sixth in the Pole Vault, clearing 9-08.00 (2.95m).

Senior Rachelle Cole (Sherrodsville/Conotton Valley) placed sixth in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 102-00 (31.09m).

Junior John Hull (Scot Depot, W.Va./Winfield) finished fifth in the 10,000m Run, finishing in 33:47.16.

Senior Tim Roberts (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) advanced to Saturday’s finals of the 400m Hurdles with a seventh place finish. He crossed the line in 56.16 seconds, which was a new personal record.

Freshman Chad Byers (New Matamoras/River) placed sixth in the Discus with a mark of 146-10 (44.75m).

Sophomore Brian Pallini (Medina) finished fifth in the Javelin Throw with a toss of 154-05 (47.06m).

Marietta’s 4x800m Relay, which featured freshmen Josh Mickle (Madison), Cody Thomas (North Olmsted) and Kent Reiber (Avon Lake) along with sophomore Jered Mitchem (Marietta/Warren Local), took seventh with a time of 8:04.12.
