Marietta and Muskingum split dual track & field meet
Pioneer women and Muskie men win respective competitions

MARIETA, Ohio — Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rivals Marietta College and Muskingum College went head-to-head in their annual track & field dual meet Tuesday (April 8) evening at Don Drumm Stadium. The Pioneer women set four school records en route to winnings the title 83.50-53.50. The Fighting Muskie men, however, held off the Pioneer men 68-63 to salvage the split.

Junior Jessi Larrison (Batavia) broke her own school record in the 400m Run with a winning time of 1:00.35. Junior Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) improved upon her own school record in the Hammer Throw with a winning mark of 45.24m (148-05). Freshman Tara Leach (West Lafayette) knocked time off her school record in the 200m Dash, crossing the line in first place with a time of 26.79 seconds. In addition, the 4x100m Relay, which featured Leach, senior Mallory Sinoski (Fairpoint/St. Clairsville), senior Sheena Spencer (Marietta/Parkersburg) and freshman Ericka Shafer (East Canton), set a school record while winning its race in 51.12 seconds.

Other first place performances in the women’s running events on Tuesday night included Sinoski in the 100m Hurdles (16.49 seconds), sophomore Shannon McDonald (Lorain/Amherst Steele) in the 3,000m Run (11:08.91) and sophomore Randi Robertson (Avon Lake) in the 800m Run (2:26.21).

The victories in the women’s field events came from Kovacevich in the Discus Throw (34.52m/113-03) and Shot Put (11.51m/37-09.25), senior Rachelle Cole (Sherrodsville/Conotton Valley) in the Javelin Throw (31.84m/104-05), Leach in the Long Jump (5.17m/16-11.50), sophomore Sarita Dhiraprasiddhi (Hilliard/Hilliard Darby) in the Triple Jump (10.19m/33-05.25), freshman Olivia Holiday (Malta/Morgan) in the Pole Vault (2.90m/9-06.25) and senior Breanne Kosar (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) in the High Jump (1.57m/5-01.75).

Freshman Matthew Hickman (St. Marys, W.Va.) was the lone Pioneer male to win a running event. He won the 100m Dash (11.17 seconds).

Marietta winners in the men’s field events included sophomore Chad Byers (New Matamoras/Frontier) in the Discus Throw (41.26m/135-04), senior Jayson Roth (Tuscarawas/Indian Valley) in the Javelin Throw (51.24m/168-01), junior Brian Pallini (Medina) in the Shot Put (14.57m/47-09.75) and Hammer Throw (45.82m/150-04), freshman Seth Beckner (Red House, W.Va./Buffalo) in the Pole Vault (4.27m/14-00.00) and freshman Justin Floyd (Redford, Mich./Redford Union) in the High Jump (1.87m/6-01.50).

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday (April 12) when they compete at the Division III All-Ohio Championship, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Activity begins at 10 a.m. (Schedule of Events)
