Marietta's Pallini provisionally qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championship in Weight Throw
Senior took fourth place with a mark of 16.78m at Kent State meet

Jan. 30, 2009
KENT, Ohio — Marietta College senior thrower Brian Pallini (Medina) admitted that he has always had the big throws in him. On Friday (Jan. 30) night that foresight proved accurate, as Pallini unloaded a NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship provisional qualifying mark in the Weight Throw while at the Kent State Field House. The NCAA Division I meet featured host Kent State University, Miami University, Ohio University and Youngstown State University.

Pallini, who entered his final season as the school record holder (15.69m) in the Weight Throw, has subsequently broken his own record in each of the last three weeks. On Jan. 17, he hit a mark of 16.01m while at the Marietta Open #1. Pallini then tossed the weight 16.09m at the Marietta Open #2 on Jan. 24.

On Friday, he uncorked his best throw of the year (16.78m), provisionally earning a spot in this year’s NCAA Indoor Championship, which is being hosted by Rose-Hulman University in Terre Haute, Ind., on March 13-14. Pallini, who was the only NCAA Division III performer, finished fourth among the six competitors in the event.

Senior teammate Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) joined Pallini at the meet and also competed in the Weight Throw. She finished 13th overall with a top mark of 13.41m.
