Marietta women place third and men sixth at OAC Relays
Pioneers set 10 school records at league competition

Jan. 31, 2009
WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Head Coach Derek Stanley's Marietta College track & field program got its first look at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition when Otterbein College hosted the 2009 OAC Relays on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon.

The Pioneers rose to the challenge by posting their highest finishes ever at the meet, which uses the combination of a school's top two finishes in individual events to determine the amount of points awarded. Therefore, depth has a lot to do with the success of a team at this meet. Marietta's women compiled 91.5 points to place third, while the Marietta men accumulated 64 points to finish sixth. Ohio Northern University swept the event after its women collected 114.50 points and its men totaled 104 points.

"The pride I witnessed by this team today was one of the best moments I have ever had here at Marietta," Stanley said. "It swelled across both teams and brought us together. The enthusiasm by our team members filled the entire indoor track!"

Marietta's team effort produced 10 school record performances; the Pioneers set seven new relay records and three individual records on Saturday.
