Marietta's Pallini finishes eighth in Weight Throw at NCAA Indoor Championship
Senior standout earns All-America honors in 2009

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Marietta College senior All-America standout Brian Pallini (Medina) capped off his stellar indoor career with an eighth place finish in the Weight Throw at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship Friday (March 13) afternoon on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Pallini, who entered the competition with the sixth-best mark this season, qualified to the finals with a throw of 16.87m (55-04.25) in the second flight of Friday’s prelims. That mark, which came in his third attempt, helped him began the finals in seventh place.

In the finals, which featured the top nine of the 16 student-athletes in the field, Pallini’s first throw allowed him to increase his top mark to 16.91m (55-05.75). Pallini’s throw earned him eighth place overall and one point for Marietta in the team standings. His performance also earned him All-America honors, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. Pallini becomes the first Marietta All-America selection since Chris Taylor ‘05 took eighth place in the High Jump at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championship. Sixth-year Head Coach Derek Stanley has now coached two NCAA Division III National Championship performers and both returned to Marietta with All-America honors.

"Brian's performance was something to be proud of; he competed well just as he has done all year," Stanley said. "The competition was solid, and he proved to be one of the best of the best D-III has to offer. I'm happy he earned All-America status as that was one of his goals going in."
