Marietta's Robertson and Kovacevich named Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-OAC
Both Pioneers earn league honor for second straight year

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2009 Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-OAC recipients on Thursday (May 14) morning and two Marietta College student-athletes earned the league honor. Junior distance runner Randi Robertson (Avon Lake) was named Academic All-OAC, while senior throws specialist Tiffany Kovacevich (Strongsville) was given honorable mention.

The OAC faculty athletic representatives selected the award winners. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.

Robertson anchored the Pioneers’ cross country team and earned her second varsity letter in 2008. She earned All-OAC honors for the second straight year after placing third overall and helping her squad take fifth place at the OAC Championship. Robertson then took 48th place at the Great Lakes Regional Meet.

Robertson also contributed to the success of the track & field team and earned her third varsity letter in 2009. She was a key member of the 4x800m Relay, which earned All-OAC honors after taking third at the OAC Outdoor Championship, and then placed second in the 3,000m Steeplechase to earn another All-OAC honor in 2009.

Robertson is the school’s indoor record holder in the 1,000m Run, Mile Run, 3,000m Run and 5,000m Run. She is also a member of the school record 4x800m Relay and Distance Medley Relay. Outdoors, Robertson holds the school record in the 1,500m Run, 3,000m Run, 3,000m Steeplechase and 5,000m Run.

Robertson, a Biochemistry major maintained a 3.39 grade point average during her first five semesters at Marietta.

Kovacevich, a four-year letterwinner in track & field, was a team captain in 2009. She was named OAC Student-Athlete of the Month for April. Her All-OAC performance in the indoor Weight Throw contributed to the team's fourth place finish at the 2009 OAC Indoor Championships. Kovacevich then won the Hammer Throw title for the second year in a row at the 2009 OAC Outdoor Championships where Marietta took fifth. Recently, she threw a mark in Hammer Throw (47.25m) that provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which will take place May 21-23 in Marietta, Ohio.

Kovacevich, a 2008 Academic All-OAC honorable mention selection, holds the school records in the indoor Shot Put (11.82m), indoor Weight Throw (14.84m), outdoor Shot Put (12.16m), and outdoor Hammer Throw (45.33m).

Kovacevich, an Advertising & Public Relations major, was recently named Marietta’s Clyde A. Lamb recipient in 2009. She entered her final semester with a 3.62 grade point average.
