Pioneer Volleyball falls to Urbana 3-0

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College volleyball team visited Urbana for its first away match of the 2004 season yesterday (Sept. 7). The Blue Knights defended their home court with a 3-0 victory over the Pioneers.

Marietta (2-3) lost in three games (30-17, 30-18, 30-21) for the second straight match. The Pioneers took the floor without sophomore middle hitter Ellen Doolittle (Louisville, KY/DuPont Manual), who is nursing an injured foot.

Senior tri-captain Ashley Webster (West Chester/Ursuline Academy) had a solid offensive night, finishing with nine of the team's 25 kills in the match.

Sophomore Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Akron Hoban) collected 16 assists in the loss. Both Burton and Webster had a team-high seven digs.

Head coach Tom Symons' team will look to get back on track this weekend (Sept. 11-12) when they travel to for Kilt Classic.
