Panthers sweep Pioneers 3-0 in volleyball

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Pioneer volleyball team continued its midseason struggles Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Ohio Dominican, the sixth straight loss for Marietta since starting the year 5-5.
Marietta (5-11, 0-2), who has been hampered by injuries all season, took the floor once again without two starters against the Panthers (19-6). Ohio Dominican dominated the net in game one and three, posting 30-17 wins. MC led for most of game two, before the Panthers came back to win 30-28.
Seniors Jennie Hayden (Powell/Olentangy) and Ashley Webster (West Chester/Ursuline Academy) led the offensive attack with six and five kills, respectively.
Freshman libero Jessica Craig (Uniontown/Lake) collected a team-high 13 digs for the Pioneers. Senior Julie Moses (Parma/Lutheran West) finished with seven digs and two service aces in the loss.
Sophomore setter Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Akron Hoban) also had 14 assists and five kills against the Panthers.
Marietta will return to action when it travels to Clarion, Pa. for the Holiday Inn Tournament this weekend (Oct. 1-2).
