Marietta falls 3-1 to Waynesburg in first road test of the season
Lady Pioneers will open OAC play at Heidelberg Saturday

WAYNESBURG, PA – Head coach Tom Symons and his squad got their first road test of the 2005 season Tuesday (Sept. 6), as Marietta traveled to Waynesburg (PA) College for a non conference showdown with the Yellow Jackets.
The Pioneers (2-3) had their chances against Waynesburg, who is 23-1 at home since 2003, but Marietta only managed to win one game, falling in four— 23-30, 30-22, 27-30, 27-30.
Marietta's three junior offensive threats each finished with double-digit kills in the loss. Ellen Doolittle (Louisville, KY/DuPont Manual) and Jaymi Stephens (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) finished with 13 kills, while Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Akron Hoban) added 12.
Doolittle also added six total blocks and three service aces in the four games.
Freshman Heather Faehnle (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) energized the offense with 42 assists, while contributing to the defense with 18 digs and five total blocks.
Sophomore libero Jessica Craig (Uniontown/Lake) added a season-high 20 digs in the loss.
Marietta will return to action Saturday (Sept. 10) when it travels to Tiffin for its Ohio Athletic Conference opener with Heidelberg at 1 p.m. |
