Marietta loses home finale 3-1 to Capital
Oct. 25, 2005
MEADVILLE, Pa. - Despite taking game one against the second-pace Crusaders in their regular season home finale, the Pioneers could not manage to win another game, falling 3-1. With the loss, Marietta falls to 8-16, 1-7 in OAC play, while Capital improves to 25-4, 7-2 in the league.
Marietta was able to catch Capital's attention by taking the first game 30-28, but the visiting Crusaders took the next three games — 30-26, 30-26, 30-14 — to win the match and snap a two-game losing streak for the 23rd ranked team in the nation.
Junior Jaymi Stephens (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) led Marietta with 14 kills, while fellow classmate Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Akron Hoban) added 13.
Freshman Heather Faehnle (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) finished with 44 assists in the match.
Sophomore libero Casey Davis (Amanda/Amanda Clearcreek) collected 28 digs, the most by a Pioneer this season and a career high.
Marietta will close out the regular season Friday (Oct. 28) when they travel to University Heights. The Pioneers need a win against John Carroll for a chance to make next week's OAC Tournament. Game time with the Blue Streaks is slated for 7 p.m.
