Doolittle named Academic All-OAC in volleyball
Burton, Craig, Stephens given honorable mention

TWINSBURG, Ohio - The Ohio Athletic Conference announced the 2005 Volleyball Academic All-OAC winners Tuesday (Nov. 15). Four Lady Pioneers received recognition by the conference office, including junior middle blocker Ellen Doolittle (Louisville, KY/DuPont Manual), who was unanimously selected Academic All-OAC.
Doolittle, who earned Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2004, was one of six student-athletes unanimously selected. The advertising & public relations major carries a 3.80 GPA. Doolittle played in 67-of-85 games and finished the season as the team leader in hitting percentage (.291), total blocks (66) and service aces (27), while finishing second in kills (201).
Three of Doolittle's teammates — juniors Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Akron Hoban) and Jaymi Stephens (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) and sophomoreJessica Craig (Uniontown/Lake) — were given Academic All-OAC honorable mention in 2005.
Burton, a biology and marketing major with a 3.42 GPA, played in 79 games this fall. The outside hitter finished first on the squad in service aces (27), third in kills (179) and fourth in digs (231).
Stephens, an international business and spanish major with a 3.59 GPA, took the floor in 83 games. The outside hitter led the team in kills (250) and digs (283), while placing third in service aces (23).
Craig, a 3.82 biology student, saw action in 72 games. The libero/defensive specialist finished the year with 230 digs and nine service aces.
As a team, Marietta finished the season 8-17, 1-8 in the OAC. The Pioneers, who had no seniors this fall, are expected to return all of its players for the 2006 season.
