Marietta volleyball stumbles against Mount Union
Pioneers fall to 2-4 in the OAC with a 3-0 loss to Purple Raiders

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball suffered its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference loss Tuesday (Oct. 17), when visiting Mount Union College swept a three-game match (30-16, 30-22, 30-22) from the Pioneers.
With the win, the Purple Raiders improved to 18-7 overall and 4-2 in the OAC. Marietta falls to 18-5 and 2-4 in League play.
The Pioneers struggled offensively from the start and hit just .097 in the loss. Senior Paige Burton (Fairlawn/Archbishop Hoban) and junior Marissa Barnhart (Avon) each led the way with six kills.
Sophomore Caity Shirk (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) finished with 25 assists in the match.
Defensively, Marietta was paced by junior libero Casey Davis (Amanda/Clearcreek) with 15 digs, while senior Jaymi Stephens (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) added 10.
Senior Ellen Doolittle (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) collected two total blocks in the match to move within two of the school's all-time record. Doolittle now has 343 career blocks.
Marietta returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 21) when it plays host to Heidelberg and Urbana for a tri-match. The Pioneers and Student Princes will go head-to-head in an OAC match at 1 p.m. Heidelberg and Urbana will then play at 3 p.m. with Marietta closing out the afternoon against Urbana at 5 p.m. All of the action will take place on Fenton Court.
