Nov. 6, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) released its 2006 volleyball award winners Monday (Nov. 6), and Marietta College senior middle hitter Ellen Doolittle (Louisville. Ky./DuPont Manual) earned second team All-OAC.
Doolittle put a stamp on a solid career with a fantastic senior season. The Pioneers’ all-time leader in total blocks tied the single-season school record for block assists with 88. Doolittle also peppered the single-season top-five lists. She was second in blocks per game (1.55), third in solo blocks (59), fourth in service aces (78) and fifth in service aces per game (0.84) and in kills per game (3.57).
Doolittle, who set seven single-match records this fall, finished her career as the all-time leader in total blocks (364), while second in service aces (207) and fourth in kills (966).
“Ellen is what D-III athletics is all about,” said third-year Head Coach Tom Symons. “She has been able to achieve excellence on the court and in the classroom at the highest level over her entire career. Having battled through injury her sophomore and junior year, Ellen has rebounded and ended her volleyball career as a leader in almost every applicable statistical category and was the biggest reason for the program's success this past season. She will be missed on the court, but more so as a member of this team.”
Marietta finished with an overall record of 20-8 and reached the 20-win plateau for just the ninth time. The 2006 squad set a new standard for regular season winning percentage (.741). As a team, Marietta finished the year with the second-most solo blocks (163), the third-most blocks assists (282) and the fourth-most service aces (236) in school history. |
