Pioneer volleyball swept 3-0 by visiting Bears
Marietta to host Baldwin-Wallace in final home regular season match on Saturday at 1 p.m.

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball fell in straight games to visiting Shawnee State University Thursday (Oct. 14) night at Ban Johnson Arena. The Bears won 25-13, 25-18, 25-8 to improve to 28-2. The Pioneers fell to 13-12 on the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Schoener (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) and freshman outside hitter Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) both finished with a team-high four kills for Marietta, who was limited to just 18 kills in the match. Heather Koehler led Shawnee State with 14 kills, while Jami Turrill had 10 kills. Pioneer senior setter Caity Shirk (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) dished out 13 assists, while Bear setter Haley Halcomb finished with 36 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted) paced Marietta with 12 digs and senior defensive specialist Brittany Papili (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) added eight digs. Freshman middle blocker Jessie Blackley (Aurora)
had a team-best four block assists for the Pioneers, who finished with six total blocks as a team. Tiffany Dailey led the Bears with 15 digs, while Becca Day contributed 12 digs. Turrill had led her squad, which finished with seven total blocks, with one solo block and three block assists.
The Pioneers will close out their home schedule against OAC rival Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1 p.m. Saturday will be Senior Day for four Marietta student-athletes. |
