AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2008 All-OAC Volleyball Teams and Special Award Winners on Tuesday (Nov. 11) morning, and Marietta College freshman outside hitter Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) was named All-OAC honorable mention.

Weissling became the first Pioneer freshman since Katy Gilliam ’02, who received second team honors in 1998, to earn recognition from the OAC coaches in her first year of collegiate volleyball.

Weissling led Marietta’s offense with 276 kills in 773 attempts and 52 service aces. She led the entire Conference in aces per game (0.68) and placed third in kills per game (3.63). Defensively, Weissling contributed 2.57 digs and 0.29 blocks per game.

Weissling also came two service aces shy of a single-match record with her seven ace effort in a five-set match against Ursuline. She then matched the career-high in a fou- set match against Capital later in the year. Her season high for digs came was 21 and came in a four-set win over rival Muskingum.

Marietta, which finished 16-17 overall and 2-7 in the OAC under second year Head Coach Ray Costa, set five single-season records in 2008. In their 34-year history, the Pioneers ranked third with 1,487 kills, fifth with 4,343 attacks, second with 1,382 assists, third with 278 block assists and third with 280 service aces.
