Holzworth named Academic All-OAC in volleyball
Junior captain set single-season record for digs in 2008

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2008 Academic All-OAC Volleyball Teams on Tuesday (Nov. 18) morning, and junior libero Becca Holzworth (North Olmsted) represented Marietta College with Academic All-OAC honors.
Holzworth, a three-year letterwinner, led the Pioneers and was second in the OAC in total digs with a single-season school record 666. The captain also ranked third in the league in digs per game (5.37), which is the fourth highest average in Marietta volleyball history. In addition, Holzworth finished second behind freshman teammate Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) in service aces per game (0.52). Holzworth ties a school record with 10 service aces in a four-game match against Mary Baldwin (Va.) in 2008.
Off the court, Holzworth carries a 3.86 grade point average as a Mathematics major. She is a member of the High Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll.
Marietta, which finished 16-17 overall and 2-7 in the OAC under second year Head Coach Ray Costa, set five single-season records in 2008. In their 34-year history, the Pioneers ranked third with 1,487 kills, fifth with 4,343 attacks, second with 1,382 assists, third with 278 block assists and third with 280 service aces. |
