No. 5 Capital's fast start dooms Lady Pioneers

COLUMBUS, Ohio - It was a tale of two halves Wednesday night (Dec. 8) as the Lady Pioneer basketball team fell 77-63 on the road to No. 5 Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.
Capital (6-0, 2-0 OAC) made 6-of-10 three-pointers to build a 22-point first half lead. Marietta (2-5, 0-2 OAC) fought back, winning the second half 38-30, but it wasn't enough to upset one of the nation's top teams.
Senior Beth Bakos (Clayton/Northmont) scored a game-high 26 points, including 19 in the second frame. She also added five boards and two assists for the Pioneers. In addition, Katie Moriarty (North Canton/Hoover) finished with nine points and freshman Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) collected seven rebounds for Marietta, who went 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the floor in the loss.
Capital was led by Kati Todd with 19 points and Kate Leopard with 17. The Crusaders shot 29-of-50 (58.0%) from the field, including 8-of-14 (57.1%) from long range.
The Pioneers will look to get back on track Saturday (Dec. 11) when they host Ohio Northern at 3 p.m. |
