MC's Pagenhardt scores career-high in wild 82-74 loss to Capital

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Lady Pioneers gave visiting Capital all that it could handle Wednesday (Feb. 16), but the Crusaders prevailed 82-74 in a wild game on Fenton Court. The win improved Capital's record to 19-4 overall, 13-4 in the OAC, while Marietta dropped to 10-13 overall, 8-9 in league play.

Wednesday's game featured 38 turnovers, 55 fouls (four technical fouls) and 75 free throws. Neither team seemed to be able to get into a rhythm as a result of the constant stoppage of play.

Marietta and Capital battled throughout the first half with the Crusaders entering intermission ahead 34-32. The Crusaders opened the half on a 24-5 run over the first eight minutes to build a 58-37 lead. The Pioneers were able to fight back into the ball game, closing the gap to six, 78-72, with 26 seconds to play, but ran out of time and Capital escaped with the victory.

The Pioneers were led by freshman Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, MD/Southern Garrett) with a career-high 27 points. She finished 7-of-16 from the floor and 13-of-16 from the line. Senior Rebecca Tokodi (Marietta/Parkersburg Catholic, WV), the reigning OAC Player of the Week, added her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 boards in the loss.

Capital was led by Sara Heitkamp with 23 and Katie Todd with 22. The two Crusaders combined to hit 23-of-28 from the line in the win.

Marietta shot 24-of-53 (45.3%) as a team, while Capital finished 21-of-43 (48.8%) from the floor. Marietta forced 17 turnovers and committed 21. The Pioneers out rebounded Capital 32-27.

The Lady Pioneers will look to close out the regular season with a win over Wilmington Saturday (Feb. 19) at 3 p.m. on Fenton Court.

Freshman Justine Pagenhardt had a career-high 27 points against Capital Wednesday.
