Two Lady Pioneers earn Academic All-OAC honors

Mar. 9, 2005
TWINSBURG, Ohio - The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its 2005 women's basketball Academic All-OAC winners Wednesday (Mar. 9). Senior Katie Moriarty (North Canton/Hoover) was named Academic All-OAC, while fellow senior Heather Bowman received honorable mention honors.

Moriarty, a double major in accounting and finance with a 3.81 GPA, picked up her second Academic All-OAC recognition, after receiving the honor in 2004. Moriarty played in all 25 games for the Pioneers this season, averaging 3.1 rebounds and 7.5 points per game. She is also a member of the Pioneer softball team and received Academic All-OAC honorable mention recognition in 2004.

Bowman, an advertising and public relations major with a GPA of 3.51, received the honor for the first time in her career as a Pioneer. Bowman saw action in 24 games in 2005, compiling 23 steals and averaging 3.0 assists and 5.2 points per game.

Moriarty and Bowman helped lead the Pioneers to a fifth-place OAC finish this year with an 8-10 mark, their best finish since the 1994-95 season when they also placed fifth (9-9).

Marietta ended the year 10-15 overall, the most wins for the program in 10 seasons. The Lady Pioneers have now improved their record in each of the last three seasons.
