Lions beat Lady Pioneers 65-56 to win consolation game of Hornet Tip-off Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Despite a career performance from sophomore Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) Saturday (Nov. 19), the Marietta College women's basketball team fell to Finlandia (Mich.) 65-56 in the consolation game of the Hornet Tip-off Tournament, hosted by Kalamazoo College.

Pagenhardt connected on 11-of-20 from the floor, 2-of-6 from long range and 5-of-7 from the line to finish with a career-high 29 points. She collected 53 points on the weekend, earning her All-Tournament honors.

Freshman Kortney Reed (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) added 13 points, but no other Lady Pioneer scored more than four in the loss.

The Lady Pioneers held the Lions to 19-of-64 (.297) shooting, while hitting 22-of-60 (.367) of their own shots. Marietta, who out rebounded Finlandia 52-to-38, fell victim to the three-point shot. The Lions connected on 11-of-35 (.314) from long range, six by Crystal Vivian, in the victory.

Vivian led Finlandia with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Brigitte LaPointe and Casey Luke added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Marietta will return to action Tuesday (Nov. 22) when it welcomes Westminster (Pa.) to Fenton Court for its home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
