Marietta women drop road game to Ohio Northern 71-39

ADA, Ohio – The Lady Pioneers' women's basketball team suffered a tough 71-39 road loss against Ohio Northern Saturday (Dec. 10).
Marietta (3-6, 0-3 OAC) managed to hit just 15-of-49 (.306) shots from the floor, including 3-of-10 (.300) from beyond the arc in the loss.
Ohio Northern (4-2, 1-1 OAC) connected on 27-of-49 (.551) from the field and hit 7-of-14 (.500) of its three-point attempts in the win.
The Polar Bears opened with 12 straight points, before an Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) lay-up put the Lady Pioneers on the board with 15:28 to play in the half. Marietta cut the lead to six, 19-13, with under nine minutes remaining in the period, but ONU closed the half on a 20-6 run to take a 39-19 advantage into the locker room.
ONU's momentum continued in the second half, with the Polar Bears extending their lead to as many as 37 points before time ran out on a 71-39 victory.
Jenny Markle led Ohio Northern with a game-high 15 points, while teammates Danielle Andreasen and Erin Brand each added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Marietta was led by sophomore Nesha Nichols (Grand Rapids, Mich./Creston), who finished with 10 points. Sophomore Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) and freshmen Val Thomas (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) and Kortney Reed (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) each added seven points in the loss.
The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday (Dec. 14) when it travels to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Presidents. |
