Marietta College accepts resignation of women's basketball coach
Director of Athletics hopes to hire interim coach soon

Dec. 28, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio — Debbie Lazorik, Marietta College's Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, has accepted the resignation of women's basketball coach Vicki Giffin. Giffin's last day as coach was Dec. 27.

Lazorik hopes to announce the program's interim coach before the Pioneers' next game on Jan. 4 against Muskingum. Assistant coach Kesha Bradford will remain on the basketball staff and as the women's tennis head coach.

The Pioneers, who lost to Wilmington 87-51 in Giffin's final game as coach on Dec. 17, are 3-8 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta's women's basketball team returned from its holiday break on Tuesday and was informed of Giffin's decision.

"Vicki has turned in her letter of resignation for personal reasons, and the College has accepted it," Lazorik said.

Giffin was in her third season with the Pioneers after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons. Prior to arriving in Marietta, Giffin was the assistant women's basketball coach at Nicholls State University in Louisiana.

Giffin had an overall record of 22-40 in her two-plus seasons with Marietta.
