Second half shooting woes send Lady Pioneers to 76-46 defeat

ALLIANCE, Ohio — A 42-40 second half deficit turned into a 30-point loss Wednesday (Jan. 11) for the Marietta College women's basketball team on the road against Mount Union. The Pioneers (4-10, 1-6 OAC) went 12:26 without scoring in the second half, allowing the Purple Raiders (9-5, 4-3 OAC) to roll to a 76-46 victory.
Mount Union, who held a 37-30 advantage at the half, finished the evening 30-of-58 (.517) from the floor, including 8-of-14 (.571) from long range. Marietta, meanwhile, finished 19-of-47 (.404) from the field, including 1-of-10 (.100) from beyond the arc. The Pioneers hit just 5-of-21 (.238) from the floor in the second half.
Lauren Friedrich paced Mount Union with a game-high 22 points, while teammate Brooke Ghilani added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Marietta was led by Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) with 16 points and Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) with 12 points in the loss.
The Pioneers will return to action Saturday (Jan. 14) when they welcome 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace to Fenton Court for a 3 p.m. tip-off. |
