Lady Pioneers fall at home to No. 12 Yellow Jackets 92-43

MARIETTA, Ohio — It was another tough afternoon for the Marietta College women's basketball team Saturday (Jan. 14), as 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace swarmed its way to a 92-43 victory on Fenton Court.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets remained alone in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with an 8-0 record and improved to 13-2 on the year. Marietta fell to 4-11 overall and 1-7 in league play.

Baldwin-Wallace came out of the gate fast and built a 47-11 lead with 3:35 to play in the half. Marietta was able to end the frame on an 8-4 run, but entered the locker room with a 51-19 deficit. The lead was never in doubt throughout the second half, as both teams were able to get their reserves extend playing time down the stretch.

As a team, Marietta finished 17-of-55 (.309) from the floor, 1-of-12 (.083) from long range and 8-of-13 (.615) from the line. Baldwin-Wallace went 33-of-72 (.458) from the field, including 9-of-17 (.529) from beyond the arc and 17-of-25 (.680) from the charity stripe.

Baldwin-Wallace dominated the boards, out rebounding Marietta 57-27 overall, including 22-6 on the offensive end. B-W also finished with 25 assists and 20 steals, while committing 22 turnovers in the win. The Pioneers finished the game with 27 turnovers and 12 steals.

Individually, Marietta was led by Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett), the OAC's leading scorer. Pagenhardt finished with a game-high 15 points. Freshman Kortney Reed (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) added 10 points, while sophomore Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) contributed four points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Baldwin-Wallace had 15 players score in the game and three finish in double figures. Nikki Altenweg had a team-high 13 points, while Leah Mottayaw and Amanda Mondrach added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Pioneers will return to action Wednesday (Jan. 18) when they visit Otterbein for a 7:30 p.m. match-up with the Cardinals.
