Struggles continue for young Lady Pioneers as they fall to host Cardinals, 90-53
Marietta shot just 14% in second half

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — An 11-point halftime deficit quickly turned into a route as the Marietta College women's basketball team fell to host Otterbein College, 90-53, Wednesday (Dec. 6) night. [Box Score]

The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Cardinals improved to 3-3, 2-0 in the OAC.

Turnovers and missed shots have played a huge role in Marietta's struggles of late and Wednesday was no exception. The Pioneers ended the night shooting just 16-of-49 (.327), including 3-of-21 (.143) in the second half, and committed 30 turnovers in the loss.

Marietta was paced offensively by junior guard Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) with 21 points, while freshman Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) finished with her third double-double of the year. The forward had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Otterbein, who finished the night 34-of-78 (.436) from the field, had four players reach double figures. Katy Miller had 18 points and 13 rebounds, Ana Gamble added 16 points, Sarah Esterkamp finished with 13 points and Sara Fee contributed 10 points. In addition, Laura Roth pitched in with eight points and eight assists.

The Cardinals out rebounded the Pioneers 49-38 and had 18 offensive boards. Otterbein also had 18 turnovers in the win.

Marietta will remain on the road Saturday (Dec. 9) when it visits Wilmington for a 3 p.m. showdown with the 16th-ranked Quakers.
