Turnovers costly in Marietta women's lopsided loss to Muskingum
Pioneers give the ball away 33 times

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team fell 88-43 to rival Muskingum College Wednesday (Jan. 10) evening. Turnovers were the story of the night, as the Pioneers gave the ball back to the Fighting Muskies 33 times in 40 minutes. [Box Score]

Muskingum (4-10, 2-5 OAC) led from wire-to-wire and dominated all aspects of the game. Marietta (2-12, 0-7 OAC) trailed 33-20 at the half and by as many as 46 points in the second stanza.

The Pioneers finished 16-of-41 (.390) from the floor, 0-8 from long range and 11-of-16 (.688) from the line. The Muskies, who had 17 steals, went 30-of-63 (.476) from the field, 5-of-17 (.294) from beyond the arc and 23-of-29 (.793) from the line. They out rebounded Marietta 38-26, including 18-7 on the offensive end.

Junior forward Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) paced Marietta with 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman Shawntae Cline (Belpre) added six points off the bench, while freshman Jen Wolfe (Ravenswood, W.Va.) had five.

Five Muskies reached double figures with Jessica McKenzie leading the way with 17 points. Leah Miller finished with a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pioneers close out a six-game road swing Saturday (Jan. 13) at Heidelberg. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
