Road struggles continue as Marietta women fall at Heidelberg 59-46
Lady Pioneers host Capital Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

TIFFIN, Ohio — Freshman forward Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) matched her career high with 15 rebounds and added 11 points in Marietta College's 59-46 loss at Heidelberg College Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon. [Box Score]

With the loss, the Pioneers (2-13, 0-8 OAC) wrapped up a month stretch in which all six games were played on the road. Marietta is now 0-7 when playing on someone else's home court. The Student Princes (10-5, 3-5 OAC), meanwhile, won their second straight league game.

Junior Abby Hess (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) paced Marietta with 16 points, 14 of which came in the first half, and nine rebounds. Junior Justine Pagenhardt (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) added 10 points, seven boards and three assists in the loss.

Brittany Skolnicki led Heidelberg with 18 points, while Maureen Hunter contributed 16 points. Amanda Campbell added eight points and 11 boards in the win.

Overall, Marietta finished 18-of-49 (.458) from the field, 2-of-11 (.182) from long range and 8-of-10 (.800) from the line. Heidelberg shot 23-of-57 (.404) from the floor, 6-of-18 (.333) from beyond the arc and 7-of-13 from the line. The Student Princes lost the battle-of-the-boards, 36-35, but forced the Pioneers into 21 turnovers while committing 16 in the win.

Hess, who scored Marietta's first 10 points, helped her team jump out to a 6-0 lead with 17:48 to play in the half. A Skolnicki three-pointer gave Heidelberg a 20-18 advantage late in the first half. Pagenhardt nailed a trey with 2:35 to play to put Marietta back on top, 21-20. The Pioneers looked as if they would take a three-point lead into intermission, but Campbell hit a jumper at the buzzer to make the score 25-24 in favor of Marietta at the half.

Heidelberg opened the second stanza with a 11-1 run to take control of the game, 35-26 with 13:34 remaining in the game. Marietta battled back within two points, 35-33, at the 9:49 mark, only for the Student Princes to stretch their lead back to double digits the rest of the way.

Marietta returns home to Fenton Court Wednesday (Jan. 13) evening to play host to Capital University at 7:30 p.m.
