Marietta women's basketball falls to host Ohio Northern in OAC opener
Pioneers play host to Otterbein Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

ADA, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball suffered a 75-40 defeat to host Ohio Northern University Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon in its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears improved to 2-3, 1-0 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fell to 2-5, 0-1 in the OAC.
Marietta finished the afternoon 14-of-40 (.350) from the field. The Pioneers went 5-of-12 (.417) from behind the three-point line and 7-of-8 (.875) from the free throw line. Ohio Northern finished 27-of-60 (.450) from the floor. The Polar Bears shot 4-of-13 (.308) from beyond the arc and went 17-of-21 (.810) from the line. Ohio Northern out rebounded Marietta 36-25 and out scored the Pioneers 38-18 in the paint. The Pioneers turned the ball over 25 times, leading to 22 points, while the Polar Bears gave the ball away nine times, leading to seven points.
Senior wing Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Davidson) connected on 5-of-10 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, to finish with a team-high 17 points. It was her second straight outing with 17 points. She now needs just one three-pointer to tie former Pioneer Lish Yoder's school record of 129 three-point field goals, which was set in 2004. Junior post Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) added 10 points, while freshman post Chelsea Drake (Georgetown) had eight points and senior guard Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) had six assists in the loss.
Ohio Northern’s Alisha Rinehart led all scorers with 20 points and five assists. Teammate Kara Dysert finished with a double-double, 15 points and 11 boards. Three other Polar Bears had eight points in a winning effort.
Marietta will look to bounce back on Wednesday (Dec. 10) evening when the Pioneers play host to OAC rival Otterbein College. Tip-off on Fenton Court is slated for 7:30 p.m. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring another “White Out”. Fans are encouraged to dress in white to show their support for Marietta College basketball. Prizes will be given away during the game. |
