Marietta women fall at Bethany 62-49
Pioneers travel to Heidelberg on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

BETHANY, W.Va. — The Marietta College women's basketball team suffered its sixth straight loss, falling on the road to host Bethany (W.Va.) College 62-49 on Tuesday (Dec. 16) evening at the Hummel Field House. The loss dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-8, while the Bison improved to 4-6 on the year.
Senior guard Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) led Marietta with 16 points, hitting 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Freshman post Chelsea Drake (Georgetown) added nine points, freshman wing Brooke Baker (Wheelersburg) had eight points and 10 rebounds and junior post Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) contributed six points and 12 boards in the loss.
Stacy Goode and Anne Wilson led Bethany with 10 points each, while Tara Harris and Renee Brandenburg had 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively, in the win.
Marietta shot just 18-of-56 (.321) from the field, including 1-of-9 (.111) from three-point range. The Pioneers, who added 12-of-16 (.750) from the free thrown line, were out-rebounded 54-47, including 26-13 on the offensive end, and finished with 22 turnovers. Bethany, who led wire-to-wire and 34-20 at the half, finished 26-of-85 (.306), from the floor, 7-of-24 (.292) from long range and 3-of-6 (.500) from the free throw line. The Bison overcame 12 turnovers.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Dec. 20) afternoon when they visit Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe Heidelberg College. Tip-off is slated for 12:30 p.m. |
