Heidelberg defeats Marietta women 83-54
Three Pioneers score double figures in loss

TIFFIN, Ohio —The Marietta College women’s basketball team and three players score double figures but it was not enough as the Pioneers suffered an 83-54 loss to host Heidelberg College on Saturday (Dec. 20) afternoon at the Seiberling Gymnasium. The win improved the Student Princes’ record to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The Pioneers fell to 2-9, 0-4 in league play.

Senior guard Nikki Driscoll (Bellaire) led all scorers with 18 points, hitting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Junior post Jamie Beckett (Wooster/Triway) contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, while senior wing Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Only two other players scored in the game; freshman post Chelsea Drake (Georgetown) had seven points and freshman wing Brooke Baker (Wheelersburg) added four points in the loss.

Stacey Richard paced Heidelberg with 15 points, while Jenny Miller added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Student Princes also got nine points from both Morgan Harrigan and Ashley Hawley.

Heidelberg led 32-22 at the half but pulled away in the final frame by out-scoring Marietta 51-32 over the final 20 minutes.

Marietta shot a season-low .283 (17-of-60) from the field, including 5-of-23 (.217) from the three-point line. The Pioneers, who were out-rebounded 53-34, added 15-of-21 (.714) from the free thrown line. Heidelberg finished the day 30-of-68 (.441) from the floor, 8-of-20 (.400) from behind the arc and 15-of-19 (.789) from the line. The Student Princes dominated the paint, out-scoring the Pioneers 42-24. Marietta turned the ball over 14 times leading to 17 Heidelberg points. The Pioneers turned 13 Student Prince turnovers into 13 points in the loss.

Marietta returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 3) evening when the Pioneers visits Capital University. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
