The Teams: Allegheny College, Hiram College, Marietta College, Penn State University-Beaver.
The Coaches: Marietta is led by second-year Head Coach Jill Meiring. Meiring is a 2001 graduate of Denison. Kate Costanzo is in her second season with Allegheny. Andrea Preston begins her second season with Hiram. Bert DeSalvo starts his season at Penn State-Beaver.
The Conferences: Three conferences are represented this weekend. The Pioneers compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Allegheny and Hiram battlee in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). In addition, Penn State-Beaver is in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).
Allegheny College: The Gators opened the season by splitting a pair of games at their tip-off tournament. Allegheny defeated Waynesburg, 50-49, before it fell to Mount Union, 74-63, in the championship. The Gators also played at Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday. Emilie Simone leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points, while Stephanie Wolf and Jill Gregory are averaging 11.5 points and 10.0 points, respectively.
Hiram College: The Terriers opened the year with a 61-59 win at Ursuline last weekend. Brittany Mayle led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Alex Dellas and Tiffany Shields both added 10 points in the win.
Marietta College: The Lady Pioneers fell to 1-2 after a pair of losses at the Mount St. Joseph Tournament last weekend. Marietta, who defeated Thiel in its season opener, lost to the host Lions, 75-62, in the first round and then Maryville (Tenn.), 79-60, in the consolation game. Nikki Driscoll is averaging a team-best 13.3 points, while Amanda Carraher and Chelsea Drake are adding 10.7 points and 10.0 points, respectively, through three games
Penn State University-Beaver: The Lions split a pair of games at the La Roche Classic. PSU-Beaver opened with a 77-57 loss to La Roche but bounced back to defeat Carlow, 73-68, the next day. Heather Sandusky, who is averaging 18.0 points, leads the team in scoring through two games. The Lions also played at Geneva on Tuesday.
Up Next for the Pioneers: Marietta continues its non conference schedule with a game at Denison University on Wedneday (Dec. 3) tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
