No. 14 Lady Pioneers win 11th Annual Marietta Invitational

MARIETTA, Ohio - The dreary weather conditions could not damper the mood at the Lindamood/VanVoorhis Boathouse on the Muskingum River Saturday (Apr. 2), as the Marietta College women's rowing team celebrated a successful day at the 11th Annual Marietta Invitational Regatta.

The event, which had to moved from Sunday ahead to Saturday because of concerns in the forecast, was held amidst intermittent rain drops and snow flurries and on a strong current.

The Lady Pioneers, who are ranked No. 14 in the latest USRowing Division III Poll, narrowly defeated Dowling (IA) Saturday. Marietta crossed the line in 5:06.86, .82 seconds ahead or Dowling (5:07.68), to win the race. North Park (IL) placed third with a time of 5:24.06) and Marietta's JVs finished fourth (5:31.06).

Varsity Four and Freshmen Four races were also scheduled to take place, but were not conducted because of weather and darkness.

Marietta's next race is the Knecht Cup in Camden, New Jersey, on Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 16-17).
