Marietta women place second at Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, NJ - The Lady Pioneers traveled to the Cooper River for the 2005 Knecht Cup this weekend (Apr. 16-17). Coach Karen Glowacki entered two boats into the Division III part of the competition.

Marietta turned in a time of 7:05.5 in the Division III Varsity Eight race, losing by 3.3 seconds to Washington (MO). The Pioneers finished ahead of Mary Washington (7:10.10), Bryn Mawr (7:22.1), Vassar (7:28.8) and SUNY-Geneseo (7:50.9).

In the Second Varsity Eight for Division III schools, Marietta (8:35.60) finished third behind Washington (MO) (8:01.90) and Mary Washington (8:21.70). Bryn Mawr trailed MC by 20 seconds.

"We raced with a new lineup this weekend and had only a week of practice together," said Glowacki. "The ladies rowed hard and showed a lot of heart. With a little more practice in their new roles, I am confident that we will be able to put out a very fast boat in our upcoming races."

The Lady Pioneers return to action this weekend (Apr. 23-24) when they travel to the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints in Rossville, PA.
