Women's rowing captures two firsts and a second at MACRA regatta

ATHENS, Ohio - The Marietta women's rowing program joined North Park (IL), Northwestern (IL), Robert Morris (PA), Grand Valley (MI), Duquesne (PA), John Carroll, Michigan State and Ohio University for the women's competition at the 2005 Mid American Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) regatta in Athens Saturday.
The Lady Pioneers had three boats entered into the event. Both the Varsity Eight and Junior Varsity Eight won their races, while the Varsity Four placed second.
The Varsity Four, which consisted of bow Megan Rogers, Amanda Stoner, Dorothy Klaiber, stroke Lindsay Letterle and coxswain Saira Khan, finished its race in 8:18.15, placing second behind North Park (8:08.00) and in front of Northwestern (8:26.05), Robert Morris (8:31.9) and Grand Valley (8:42.15).
The Junior Varsity Eight rowed to a first place finish over Duquesne's lightweight boat (8:10.04) with a time of 7:56.51. Members of the boat included bow Meredith Hay, Jenny Sayles, Rita Soworowski, Brittany Mayhew, Sarah Henry, Becca Stewart, Rosa Hanks stroke Vee Pfab and coxswain Dan Carnall.
Marietta's Varsity Eight, which sits from bow Megan Rogers, Meg Foraker, Corinne Mees, Amanda Chuderewicz, Kim Becker, Kelsey McNamara, Dorothy Klaiber, stroke Lindsay Letterle and coxswain Meredith Rogers, cruised to a first place finish in its race, crossing the line in a time of 7:52.39. North Park (8:01.24) took second, while Grand Valley (8:02.02), Duquesne (8:45.39) and Ohio University (8:48.73) rounded out third through fifth, respectively.
The Lady Pioneers will return to action next weekend for the historic Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Action begins Friday (May 13) and concludes Saturday (May 14).
