Lady Pioneers preparing to defend their gold medal this weekend at Dad Vails

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Lady Pioneer Navy made history in 2004, winning the school's first women's Varsity Eight medal at Dad Vails, as it rowed to a first place finish in the DII/DIII Varsity Heavyweight Eight race. Coach Karen Glowacki and her squad will attempt to defend that title this weekend (May 13-14) when they travel to the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA. for the 67th annual Dad Vail Regatta.

The Lady Pioneers were announced as the fourth seed in event, which includes eight boats. Nova Southeastern (FL) was given the top seed, while Florida Tech, Barry (FL), Marietta and Rochester Tech (NY) rounded out the top five seeds. The DII/DIII race, which was added in 2004, will comprise of two semifinal heats Saturday at 10:10 a.m. and the Grand Finals at 4:29 p.m.

Marietta's Varsity Eight sits from bow Megan Rogers, Meg Foraker, Corinne Mees, Amanda Chuderewicz, Kim Becker, Kelsey McNamara, Dorothy Klaiber, stroke Lindsay Letterle and coxswain Meredith Rogers.

Marietta will also compete as a Junior Varsity Eight at the event. The JV Pioneers placed Eighth in the regatta a year ago.

Members of the JV Eight boat included bow Meredith Hay, Jenny Sayles, Rita Soworowski, Brittany Mayhew, Sarah Henry, Becca Stewart, Rosa Hanks stroke Vee Pfab and coxswain Dan Carnall.
