Pioneer women to kickoff fall rowing season Sunday at Stonehurst Regatta
Oct. 8, 2005
MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College women's rowing programs will get the first test as to how its 2005-06 squad compares to outside competition when the Pioneer Navy travels to the Stonehurst Capital Invitational Regatta Sunday (Oct. 9) in Rochester, NY.
The Stonehurst Invitational is raced on the Genesse River, one of the few north flowing rivers in the United States. The competition draws some of the top crews in the nation, as well as from Canada, each year.
The crews will compete in a thee-mile head race in the morning and then, based on the results, are paired for 1500 meter sprints in the afternoon. The Pioneers, a historical participant in the event, are returning after a one-year hiatus.
The Marietta women will be racing in the Collegiate Women's 8+ event, and are excited to renew their racing "acquaintance" with Radcliffe, Ithaca, Syracuse, Brown, Yale, Cornell, and other top women's rowing programs.
"We look forward to showing off some speed," said head women's coach Karen Glowacki. "Our goal for this race is for he V* to finish in the top ten overall and JV8 to place among the top ten collegiate crews."
